Good afternoon everyone,
Reflection for the week
With the snap lockdown in the ACT, I wanted to reassure our community that preparation for Remote Learning across our Archdiocese has been occuring in the background for many months. CE have been working with all Principals to ensure that IF Remote Learning is the mode of learning, we will be prepared. At Trinity we are following the Leadership of CE and have been systematically and efficiently getting ready. This week all teachers and classroom assistants participated in professional learning related to MS Teams (which is the learning platform we will be using). I believe strongly in upskilling all staff and ensuring all staff are prepared for such an event. As a result classroom support assistants and office staff attended the learnng so that a smooth transition to Remote Learning can occur in an online setting. Our learning support staff are vital members of TEAM TRINITY and will support our students in their learning as much as they do in class. Classroom teachers have been discussing the possibilities of Remote Learning and following the direction of the Leadership Team in order that they and their students are prepared. I have every confidence in our staff that in the event we go into lockdown, learning will continue and we will reach out to families on a regular basis to offer support and encouragement.
A very big thank you to the families who have helped at the Canteen for the Red Devils over the last couple of games. Particular thanks to the Community Council who have help co-ordinate helpers and Leanne Davis who has consistently ensured that the food is availabe, the floats are ready, the eftpos machine is charged and what needs to be done is actioned.
Focus on Learning
This week I have been actioning Learning Walks in classrooms. A Learning Walk is a scaffold for finding evidence of learning. When I look for evidence it is the students that I will question. My search at the moment is evidence that students know the writing skills they are working towards. To find out whether or not students know, I simply ask them. The term success criteria is used across the school to let the students know what the criteria for their learning is, so this week I asked students in 3/4 what thier success criteria for writng is. These are their responses-
- we are learning to write an imaginative text.
- we have to choose a character and think about how that character will be in the story.
- the character has to be described alot.
- once we know about the character we have to decide the setting, thats where the story will take place.
- the character and the settng have to match.
- we are doing all of this and its in the planning stage (pointing to a classroom display of the four parts of the writing cycle).
- then we have to write, then edit, then publish.
- we are entering a competition- The Lambing Competiton.
Student success is significantly increaed when students know the targets and are scaffolded in how to get there. I know you will be as interested as I am to read their published texts.
Processes and Protocols
A few reminders:
Please do not get out of your car of an afternoon, teachers will bring your child to the car- this is a Covid safe practice.
Please send your child to school with a jumper, even if they say they are not cold, children at a young age often find it difficult to regualte their own temperature.
Please drive at 40km per hour or less whilst outside the school, the safety of your children is paramount.
Please check your child's bag for notes, they often forget.
Please read all correspondence that comes through SchoolZine, this is our main form of communication.

Feast of the Assumption of Mary – Sunday 15th August
Yesterday, K-2 led our school mass to celebrate the upcoming Solemnity of the Assumption of Blessed Virgin Mary. Our Catholic tradition teaches us that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was assumed body and soul into Heaven as a reward for her faithfulness. Her life and devotion should be an example for all of us. Thank you to Mrs Lucas and the K-2 children for leading the ministries at the mass and sharing a beautiful Liturgical Reflection at the end of Communion. This made it a very special mass for us all to share in.
This weekend, 15th August, we affirm our belief that Mary is now in Heaven. This feast of Mary originated in a sixth century feast of the Dormition or ‘Falling asleep of Mary’. By the seventh century the feast became known as the Assumption of Mary. The date of this feast commemorated a very ancient harvest festival towards the end of summer, which gave thanks to the Earth Mother for her fertility in producing the harvest. The feast of the Assumption commemorates the glorification of Mary, chosen by God, to be the mother of Jesus the Christ.
Prayer
Mary, Mother of Jesus and our Mother.
In the power of the Holy Spirit,
you received the Word of God.
We turn to you today and
every day for guidance, wisdom,
courage and understanding.
We entrust our prayers to you
as we seek your help each day.
Amen
Religious Education in Kinder/1/2
This week K/1/2 have been looking at the differences between society now and when Jesus was alive. The students created a diary detailing some of the important differences they noticed. Topics ranged from places of worship, food and how to gather it, medication and healing, and social engaging.
Classroom Prayer Tubs
This week our RE Minister, Jemima Mergard, presented all classes with new Prayer Tubs to be utilised during classroom prayer. The tubs contain liturgical cloths (green, white, red, purple), a candle, bible, cross, Prayer Book, Rosary Beads and a copy of the Liturgical Calendar.
Liturgical Colours and Seasons: The colour of the liturgical vestments change from time to time. This is because the Church uses different colours to indicate the season or feast that is being celebrated.
WHITE: White (or gold), since it is a festive, joyful colour, is used during the Christmas and Easter seasons, and on major feast days, such as, on the celebrations of the Lord other than of his Passion, of the Blessed Virgin Mary, of the Holy Angels, and of Saints who were not martyrs, and on the Solemnities of All Saints. Because white symbolises the Resurrection, it is also the colour often used for funerals.
PURPLE: Purple (or violet) symbolises repentance and penance. Vestments of purple or violet are used during the seasons of Advent and Lent.
The colour reminds us of the violet flower that bows its head and is a symbol of humility. Lent is the season of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. It is a quiet season of reflection. The colour of Advent is more of a rose-purple, like the sky just before sunrise. This is the time of year when the Church waits in joyful hope to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the light of the world.
Purple or violet dye was very expensive. An early Christian, Lydia from Thyatira, made her living from the purple dye trade and was able to support St Paul in his missionary work (Acts 16: 14-15).
GREEN: Green is a sign of life in nature and as such it represents growth, life and hope. Green is the colour worn most often during liturgies in Ordinary Time. It symbolises the graces that draw people into the life of God. Most of the Church's year is Ordinary Time.
RED: Red symbolises both blood and fire. It is the colour that is used on Passion (Palm) Sunday, Pentecost Sunday, and for celebrations of the Sacrament of Confirmation. It is also the colour that has traditionally been associated with martyrs – those who have shed their blood for their faith – and so it is worn on the feast days of martyrs.

Year 5/6 Classroom News
Wow! What a great Maths unit enjoyed by Year 5/6. Over the past couple of weeks, the students have been exploring a unit of work on Volume. During the unit they have explored:
- what volume and capacity is.
- the units and formulas used in measuring and calculating volume.
- and how/where volume is used in daily life.
During the unit, the students were given various projects to explore and develop including:
- creating a recipe book showing uses of volume in the kitchen.
- creating an experiment book showing the uses of volume in Science.
- creating a game that can be played in class to develop our understanding of volume and measurement.
- designing and building an example of a habitat, showing the volume of water required to keep the flora and fauna alive in the area - showing their understanding that the size of the habitat can influence the number of species within that habitat.
To conclude the unit, Year 5/6 were treated to a cooking session with Miss Wade, supported by Mrs Burns.
The students worked in small groups to put their knowledge and understanding of volume, and the need to use accurate measurements, to the test in cooking.
Each group was given the task to read and follow a recipe, work collaboratively in the group, and produce a quantity where the entire class would receive a portion of the final product.
They made:
- Rocky Road Slice
- A Yummy Chocolate Cake
- Coconut Roughs
- Chocolate Crackles
- Strawberry Yogurt Slice
YUM!!!! A fun unit indeed!!
Art in Kinder/1/2
Mrs Dyball (our Prac Tecaher) had Kinder/1/2 totally immersed in all things Jackson Pollock this week. She dressed up in clothes Pollock would have worn back in the 40's, read out some of his most famous quotes and created varying viscosities with paint for us to experiment with and reflect on their effects. Art appreciation at its best! All the students had a lot of fun and went home with pretty colourful tootsies!!
Boorowa Carnival
The BOOROWA TOUCH/NETBALL CARNIVAL will be held on FRIDAY 15TH OCTOBER 2021. This competition is open to students in Years 2-6. If this carnival still goes ahead, Trinity will be registering teams to compete in the day.
Archdiocesan Athletics Carnival
Please be advised that the CG Athletics Carnival has been rescheduled for Thursday 14th October at the AIS.
However, advice from the CE regarding inter-school sport may change, given the current Covid 19 climate and ongoing developments.
The Archdiocesan Sports Coordinators will plan for the CG Athletics Carnival to go ahead at this stage. Trinity Catholic School have 8 students who have been selected to represent at this level. These students were selected from combined results of school carnivals since the regional carnivals could not be held. These 8 students will receive notification from Miss Wade indicating the events they have been selected in.
New Equipment for Trinity
We are very excited to receive our new sports equipment for Trinity. This equipment is a welcome addition to our sports facilities, and will be well utilised during our Tennis sports block, as well as class PE lessons and lunchtime play.
