Welcome back to another term of learning and community building with Team Trinity. Although the break was not what we expected I hope that you had some time to rest and rejuvenate.
Reflections for the week
On Monday we gathered for our Staff Spirituality Day, this day was an opportunity to retreat from our everyday tasks and build our relationship with God. The day was led by Donna Wade with gentleness, sincerity, and much fore thought. With the help of scripture, clay, water colours, and a gentle prayer walk, we were each able to take time to strengthen our relationship with God. Thankyou Donna for the thought and preparation into such an important day.
I had the pleasure of teaching all students yesterday during our NAIDOC rotations. We were lucky enough to receive a gift from St Francis Xavier Catholic School in Lake Cargelligo and I wanted the students to have some understanding of the family who made the beautiful clapping sticks for us. One group suggested that saying thankyou would be a lovely way of showing gratitude, so that is exactly what we did. We rang Lake Cargelligo on Microsoft Teams and spoke to Jayde whose parents had made the clapping sticks for us. The students were delighted to see Jayde and shared their gratitude beautifully.
Focus on learning
Our 2021 strategic plan has four big ideas.
- Teaching using the Science of Reading.
- Understanding cognitive load and the impact it has on students learning.
- Using the three worlds of the text to teach RE.
- Using high impact teaching strategies to teach.
This week staff continued to learn about teaching using the Science of Reading by participating in an online unit of learning. The rich discussion lead us to the following affirmations-
* the hearing of sounds (without letters), is crucial to the development of students’ reading.
* the manipulation of sounds (without letters) is crucial to the development of students’ reading.
* reading includes the decoding of sounds and comprehending, one without the other results in difficulties.
* the explicit teaching of vocabulary in Years Three to Six is crucial to the development of students’ reading.
Processes, procedures and information

Attendance
Catholic Education regularly review their policies and procedures. Most recently the Attendance Policy has been reviewed and updated. The following is a summary of the important points within the policy and changes that will directly impact parents.
Parents/carers must ensure that enrolled students attend every day of school, and every activity or event the school requires the student to attend, during the required times.
Parents/carers must provide an explanation to the school for any absence, ideally on or before the day of absence, and no more than five school days after the absence occurs.
Parents/carers must notify the school of planned absences of up to 25 school days in a 12- month period (including 25 part days) in writing, including the reason for the absence.
Parents/carers should understand that schools are required to record any absence as an unapproved or unjustified absence, unless they receive and accept a reasonable explanation before the attendance register is finalised.
Principals must respond to all emerging absenteeism, where a child misses 5-10 days of school er term.
God bless you.

Celebrating NAIDOC Week at Trinity
This week staff and students at Trinity celebrated NAIDOC Week through prayer and activities to raise awareness and appreciate our Indigenous culture and heritage in this land and our local community. We acknowledge the deeply religious and spiritual
The theme for NAIDOC Week 2021 is:
We recognise that First nations peoples have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years.
We began our NAIDOC Day with a beautiful liturgy, acknowledging the traditional owners of the land on which we gathered, the land of the Wiradjuri people. The children began the Liturgy by presenting gifts connected to our nations’ Aboriginal heritage to the altar. These gifts included: water, a didgeridoo, a candle to represent light, an Indigenous painted cross, the Aboriginal Nations flag and a set of clapsticks which were made and hand-painted by Michael and Jenna, a Wiradjuri family from Lake Cargelligo, and presented to our school last term.
Following the liturgy, students and staff participated in activities to develop understanding of Indigenous culture, particularly our local Wiradjuri culture. These activities included:
- Making Johnny Cakes/Damper
- Listening to and learning about Dreamtime
- Learning the significance of Clapsticks in Aboriginal culture and more about the Clapsticks which were presented to our school.
- Learning about, and playing, Traditional Indigenous Sports
A fun educational day was enjoyed by all!
Beanie Day
We thank all students and families who supported our Beanie Day with a gold coin donation today. This was a Mini Vinnies ‘Winter Appeal’ initiative to raise funds to support local district families in need.

Spirituality Day
Trinity staff began the term on Monday 12th July with a Spirituality Day.
The objectives for the day were:
To unpack and engage with the scriptures using the Worlds of the Text and Visio Divina
To explore various ways in which we can engage with scripture to help nurture our spiritual growth and wellbeing.
To experience and understand God in our lives.
This was achieved through prayer and unpacking a selection of Parables including:
- The Parable of the Pearl through Godley Play.
- Connecting with God through Visio Divina.
- The Parable of the Mustard Seed through Indigenous eyes and art.
- The Prodigal Son through prayer and clay sculpture.
- The Good Samaritan through a reflective walk.
- The Good Shepherd through Iconography.
We are very thankful to the wonderful staff in their preparations for, and support of, the Spirituality Day with special thanks to Sue Orchison who led our workshop on Iconography. All staff were super impressed with the opportunity to be part of this wonderful workshop.
Some comments from the staff at the completion of the day were:
- Amazing day journeying through the parables with rich experiences.
- Beyond expectations – truly amazing and heart-warming.
- A balanced approach to background information and expression
- Great insight – something that can be used across the school.
- It was great to explore the parables as an adult and how you see them differently than as a child.
- We could explore classroom-relevant content with authentic integration of prayer and arts.
- The painted image I chose in the Visio Divina at the start of the day will nourish me throughout the term.
- A lovely range/variety of activities – prayer, reflection, artworks. Very grateful!
- Iconography was certainly a highlight – I can’t wait to explore this further!!
