Celebrating NAIDOC Week at Trinity
This week staff and students at Trinity celebrated NAIDOC Week through prayer and activities to raise awareness and appreciate our Indigenous culture and heritage in this land and our local community. We acknowledge the deeply religious and spiritual
The theme for NAIDOC Week 2021 is:
We recognise that First nations peoples have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years.
We began our NAIDOC Day with a beautiful liturgy, acknowledging the traditional owners of the land on which we gathered, the land of the Wiradjuri people. The children began the Liturgy by presenting gifts connected to our nations’ Aboriginal heritage to the altar. These gifts included: water, a didgeridoo, a candle to represent light, an Indigenous painted cross, the Aboriginal Nations flag and a set of clapsticks which were made and hand-painted by Michael and Jenna, a Wiradjuri family from Lake Cargelligo, and presented to our school last term.
Following the liturgy, students and staff participated in activities to develop understanding of Indigenous culture, particularly our local Wiradjuri culture. These activities included:
- Making Johnny Cakes/Damper
- Listening to and learning about Dreamtime
- Learning the significance of Clapsticks in Aboriginal culture and more about the Clapsticks which were presented to our school.
- Learning about, and playing, Traditional Indigenous Sports
A fun educational day was enjoyed by all!
Beanie Day
We thank all students and families who supported our Beanie Day with a gold coin donation today. This was a Mini Vinnies ‘Winter Appeal’ initiative to raise funds to support local district families in need.

Spirituality Day
Trinity staff began the term on Monday 12th July with a Spirituality Day.
The objectives for the day were:
To unpack and engage with the scriptures using the Worlds of the Text and Visio Divina
To explore various ways in which we can engage with scripture to help nurture our spiritual growth and wellbeing.
To experience and understand God in our lives.
This was achieved through prayer and unpacking a selection of Parables including:
- The Parable of the Pearl through Godley Play.
- Connecting with God through Visio Divina.
- The Parable of the Mustard Seed through Indigenous eyes and art.
- The Prodigal Son through prayer and clay sculpture.
- The Good Samaritan through a reflective walk.
- The Good Shepherd through Iconography.
We are very thankful to the wonderful staff in their preparations for, and support of, the Spirituality Day with special thanks to Sue Orchison who led our workshop on Iconography. All staff were super impressed with the opportunity to be part of this wonderful workshop.
Some comments from the staff at the completion of the day were:
- Amazing day journeying through the parables with rich experiences.
- Beyond expectations – truly amazing and heart-warming.
- A balanced approach to background information and expression
- Great insight – something that can be used across the school.
- It was great to explore the parables as an adult and how you see them differently than as a child.
- We could explore classroom-relevant content with authentic integration of prayer and arts.
- The painted image I chose in the Visio Divina at the start of the day will nourish me throughout the term.
- A lovely range/variety of activities – prayer, reflection, artworks. Very grateful!
- Iconography was certainly a highlight – I can’t wait to explore this further!!
