Library Report
Two more Children’s Book Council of Australia shortlisted books were read and enjoyed by students this week in library in preparation for BOOK WEEK celebrations in Week 7.
Kinder, Year 1 and 2 explored the text Tricky’s Bad Day by renowned author Alison Lester.
“Tricky is not having a great day. He spills milk on the floor, his clothes won’t cooperate, his scooter breaks, his smoothie splatters and his sister wrecks his game. His mood goes from bad to worse, until Tricky doesn’t even want to be in a good mood anymore. He just wants to be bad! But Dad knows bad moods are no good for young cubs, and he also knows a few secret tricks to make them go away.”
A fabulous picture book for children where they can relate to the strong emotions Tricky experiences, and, in a gentle way, be encouraged to find ways to turn a bad mood around when they inevitably fall into one.
Years 3 and 4 thoroughly enjoyed Michaels Speechley’s first published books, The All New Must Have Orange 430.
Main Character, Harvey, owned a heap of stuff, but could always use more. The ORANGE 430 was the latest and the greatest. Harvey wasn't sure what it did, but he had to have it!
A cheeky picture book for anyone who’s bought a thingy or whatsit . . . and doesn't quite know why. In his debut picture book, Michael Speechley explores our obsession with stuff in a fun and edifying way.
Years 3/4 put their illustrator caps on and attempted to draw their own interpretations of the famous Orange 430, while giving this useless object a purpose.
Years 5 and 6 continued to discuss and research the themes of Cicada by
Shaun Tan and completed their own book trailers to persuade staff and other students to be interested in knowing more about this text.
A reminder that Trinity will celebrate Book Week in Week 7, so start planning your SUPER HERO or FAVOURITE BOOK CHACTER COSTUME and POW into reading!!
