Irish & Celtic Music Festival Yass, September 16-18
The Irish & Celtic Music Festival is a vibrant and welcoming space for juniors to perform. Lots of opportunities available!
Poetry Soirée, 6-9pm, St Clements Anglican Hall
Church St, Yass. All ages welcome. MC: John Peel. Open mic 30 minutes (Juniors welcome), then Festival poets. Two course meal provided by St Clements Auxiliary. $25. PLEASE BOOK DINNER via 0401 289 178 or robynsykespoet@gmail.com
Reciter of the Year Award: Judged by previous festival’s winner Marion Dreyer over the Poets’ Breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday, 8-10am, Clubhouse Hotel. Juniors welcome. Entry by Festival ticket or $5 at the door.
U18 Open Mic: Open mic poetry, all styles welcome, ages 5-18. Winner: trophy plus $50. 11.30-12.30, Hartigan Centre, Mt Carmel School, Meehan St. Free event.
One Minute Wonder:
Channel your creativity into a One Minute Wonder! Write a poem over the weekend, containing the topic words, which are available at all poetry events from Friday. Come to the Lovat Chapel on Sunday afternoon, 2-3pm, and present your poem in one minute or less. Winner decided by audience acclamation. Prize $100. Juniors welcome.
There is also a Poetry Debate on Saturday afternoon where a team of Young Guns take on the Oldies, which may be interesting for students. Free event.
