Retreat Day

This week our Confirmation candidates participated in a Retreat Day at St. Anthony’s Church with Mrs Doolan, Miss Wade and Father Lolesio. A great day of reflection and preparation was enjoyed by all. We thank Father Lolesio and visiting priests, Fr Kimi Vunivesilevu (St John the Apostle Kippax Parish) and Fr Loi Viovicente (Our Lady of Perpetual Help Kaleen/Evatt Parish) for supporting our children on the day by providing Reconciliation.

Confirmation Mass

This weekend many of our Year 5 and 6 students will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation at St. Anthony’s Church at 9am. The Sacrament of Confirmation is the second of the three sacraments of Christian initiation.

Confirmation completes Baptism, by which in the laying on of hands and the anointing with Chrism Oil, which first happened at Baptism, we are confirmed with the fullness of the Holy Spirit.

We are reminded of our participation in the ministry and mission of Jesus and strengthened to follow Jesus more closely. Our Trinity community and members of Our Lady of Mercy Parish pray for each of our Confirmation Candidates and wish them all the best as they celebrate this special Sacrament.

The following children will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this Sunday – Pentecost Sunday.

PENTECOST

This Sunday is Pentecost Sunday.

Pentecost is observed on the seventh Sunday after Easter and 10 days after Ascension. The name comes from the Greek word "pentekoste" which means fiftieth as Pentecost Sunday takes place on the 50th day of Easter.

It marks the end of the Easter cycle, that began 90 days ago with Ash Wednesday at the start of Lent.

This Christian holy day commemorates the coming of the Holy Spirit in the form of flames to the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ, as recorded in the New Testament in Acts 2:1–31, the fifth book of the New Testament of the Bible.

The Holy Spirit allowed the apostles to speak in other languages, and they started preaching the word of Jesus to the Jews who were in Jerusalem for the feast of Shavuot (also known as the Feast of Weeks or Pentecost - in this case, meaning seven weeks since Passover).

Many Christians recognise the Descent of the Holy Spirit as the birth of the Church. (https://www.officeholidays.com/holidays/pentecost-sunday)
