Around the Classroom

K-2 Open House

Yesterday, the Trinity Community plus the Billabong Room from Bunyip were treated to a special Mother's Day Open House by Infants. There were tears, laughter and everything in between. Mothers were given specially decorated crowns as they walked in, to be worn during the Open House. K-2 started with a special prayer based around Taylor Swift's song that she wrote for her own mother called 'The Best Day'. The song played as the kids thanked their mums for their own 'best day' memories. These ranged from going down waterslides in Hawaii to having Mum on the sidelines of the footy. K-2 read from front page Newspapers, where mums were awarded 'Mum of the Year 2021', read out 'What my Mum Always Says' (a few mothers looked a little anxious about this segment!) and finished off with their 'wishes' for their mums which were incredibly touching and special. Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colours was enacted showing us that, even though we may not have lots of money, we are rich in love, often due to the love of our Mothers. This was followed by the whole congregation delivering a Mother's Day chant to the wonderful crown-wearing mums in the audience.

K-2 Science

This term in Science, K-2 have been looking at mixtures and how a mixture is made. The students agreed that a mixture has to be made of at least 2 different 'ingerients' which get combined. As an experiment, the students got to make a 'mixture' out of flour, salt, oil, cream of tartar, food colouring and boiling water (or as they all predicted, playdough). The students loved seeing and playing with the finished product once the ingredients were all mixed together. The procedure is added (below) for you to try at home!

Playdough

2 cups flour, 2 Tbsp oil, 1/2 cup salt. 2 Tspn cream of tartar, 1 1/2 cups boiling water, food colouring of your choice.

Place all ingredients in a bowl and mix until combined, knead until a dough forms.
