From the Principal
Another amazing week at Trinity.
- All students participated in St Patrick’s Day experiences lead by our Year Six leaders.
- Years Three to Six participated in a live 45min virtual classroom to educate them in how to be an upstander.
- Years Three and Four are well on the way to publishing a guide to the writing cycle.
- Many of our students received the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time on Wednesday evening. Congratulations to these students and I look forward to seeing them on Sunday morning at Mass when they will receive the Sacrament of Eucharist for the first time.
- Our Infants students have been discovering the most efficient strategies to work out how many chimneys a variety of different houses have, and of course...
With Covid restrictions lifting and the theme for Term Three being Journeying Together in HOPE, what better way to celebrate the Trinity community than with the presentation of the musical 'The Wizard of Oz'. We will be seeking the involvement of the community for this fantastic event, so please watch this space.
THANKYOU
A very warm thankyou to the many parents who joined us today for our annual Cross Country. We have so much to celebrate and share as a community, without each of your warm smiles, your helping hands and your dedication to building our community, we would not be the beautiful community we are. God bless each of you.
BEK AND KELLY’S OFFICE
This year we have Rebekah Sheeley and Kelly Scott working at Trinity every week. Rebekah is our Student and Family Counsellor and works all day every Wednesday. Kelly is our Student Welfare Officer and works half a day every Tuesday.
As part of the pastoral care program for students, Trinity has access to the counselling service provided by Catholic Care Canberra & Goulburn. There is no fee to access this service.
Bek’s role is to focus on the emotional, social and educational well-being of the students. She welcomes contact with students who are having difficulty with some part of their life. The challenge does not have to be a big one. Some concerns include: anger, anxiety, behavioural problems, depression, eating challenges, family breakdown and conflict, grief and loss, learning and educational challenges, parenting challenges, peer and other social relationships, school avoidance, stress and study skills.
Student and Family Counsellors subscribe to a set of professional ethics that include duty of care and respect for the individual rights to privacy and confidentiality. The counsellors’ obligation is to ensure the safety, wellbeing, and confidentiality of the student they are working with. All counsellors are mandated to report any disclosure or sign of abuse (including self-harm) or neglect to Child Protection Services. Outside of our mandated requirements, all counselling sessions are confidential, and the details will not be discussed with other parties unless written consent is given by the client.
Kelly is our Student Welfare Officer. As the name suggests, Kelly’s role is to support the well being and welfare of all students. Kelly can work with groups of students or with individuals. There are a plethora of resources at Trinity that Kelly has access to, to enable students to develop the necessary social and emotional skills to navigate the complexities of family, and friends. We are excited to have Kelly join our team.
Bek and Kelly’s skills complement one another beautifully for the health and wellbeing of our students. They will be sharing a common space, that has been specifically set up for the type of learning and experiences they both provide. Please do not hesitate to contact Bek or Kelly on Kelly.Scott@cg.catholic.edu.au or Rebekah.Shelley@cg.catholic.edu.au
READ, READ, READ.
The 2021 Trinity Rocket has been launched with great success by Mrs Doolan and students in the library. Some of the fabulous initiatives that occur in the library are:
Milk and bookies- students come to the library during lunch time to share with a partner the book they are reading, whilst drinking some yummy chocolate milk, thanks Mrs Doolan. I joined the students today and learnt that Hamish S likes short stories and has discovered how to find out when a book is published, Jemima likes to read guidebooks and doesn’t recommend I play Minecraft without reading one of the Minecraft guides and Melanie loves fantasy, especially Mulan.
45seconds of fame- students have been promoting a book in 45 seconds only, they have all been working on different public speaking skills, a big challenge is to present without saying um. Next week they will begin using the app, Speak Pipe to record their 45 seconds of fame. These will then be shared with other students and eventually with families. So look out for the 45 seconds of fame, coming soon.
Our Minister for the Library spends her lunch time every Wednesday reading stories to infants’ students and they love it. Great job Sammy, she may be our next Noni Hazlehurst.
All these strategies have been implemented to encourage a love of literature and the proof is in the pudding, as they say. There has been a significant increase in the borrowing of books, particularly in the higher grades. Thank you, Mrs Doolan, for your love of literature is infectious.
Who Am I? (Just for Community Fun, open to everyone)
Last weeks Who Am I? was Fiona Bassingthwaighte.
The winner of the Mufti and Milkshake voucher was Somer Oldfield.
So far, we have Stevie, Phoebe, Somer and myself heading to Terracotta in the last week of term. I wonder who else will be joining us?
This week’s Who Am I?
MRS PERRYMAN’S HIGHLIGHT FOR THE WEEK
Henry in Kindergarten came to the Front Office during his library lesson and asked if he could have a copy of the piece of paper he had in his hand. When the photocopier had finished, his utter amazement at what the photocopier had done was priceless.
He said to Mrs Davis “It’s the same.”
“Yes,” she replied, “it is.”
“It’s the same,” he repeated.
“Yes,” she replied, “it is the same, that’s what the photocopier does.”
God bless each of you and enjoy the weekend.
