Year 5/6 Camp News

Last week Year 5/6 travelled to Cooba Recreation and Education Centre for three days of fun-packed activities at their annual camp.

The children had a lot of fun participating in a number of challenging activities.

The activities included: Archery, Orienteering, Swimming, Leap of Faith, Mountain Bikes, Team Slingshot Making, Team Initiatives, The Big Swing and Team Manoeuvres.

The children also had the opportunity to partake in R&R activities which included: swimming in the motel pool, air hockey, playing pool/table tennis/basketball/handball, watching movies and feeding the resident horses.

The meals were amazing at camp with all the children commenting on how wonderful it was to have such great food and ‘cooked breakfast’ every morning. They certainly had plenty of chances during the day to burn up the extra energy. A beautiful comment from one kitchen staff member was how impressed she was that our children removed their hats/caps upon entering the dining room and displayed the most pleasant manners.

We could not fault the team coordinators at Cooba Recreation Camp. They were encouraging and supportive and gave our Year 5/6 group great opportunities to challenge themselves, build team relationships and develop self-esteem through accomplishing something new and exciting.

The coordinators at Cooba Recreation Centre were more than impressed with our students and frequently commented on their impeccable manners, cooperation and initiative whilst at camp.

We thank Mr Cooper for driving the bus, Miss Wade for coordinating the excursion and both Miss Wade and Mr Cooper for accompanying the children at all activities, joining in and having as much fun as the students. Thank you also goes to Mrs Davis for all the behind the scenes work in organising the camp.

We are very thankful to Harden District Education Foundation for providing support to help fund our camp this year. The continued support from HDEF is appreciated by all students, teachers and families as it provides financial support to allow our students to experience such wonderful opportunities at a reduced cost to families.

This year’s camp has been a welcome relief for all concerned in what has a been a year of turmoil caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. It was well received by students, teachers and families alike.
