NRL Gala Day

Year 5 / 6 travelled to Young this week to compete in an NRL Gala day. This was a day of fun competition with a total of five 15-minute games played against various schools in our region. Our girls played in the League Tag competition and our boys teamed up with Sacred Heart to play in the Boys Tackle competition. The girls won three of their five games and the boys also won three of their five games. Both teams displayed excellent skills in both attack and defence. It was very impressive to witness the growth in the Girls team in their skills and application of game play to score tries and hold their defence. The boys played equally as well with the confidence to apply their skills and listen intently to their coach on the day and apply advice given to their game. The competition was run as a social day with a fun component – scores were not submitted as it was not a competition day – it was a fun skills day.

Comments from the Students

Archie – It was a great fun day. It wasn’t too easy playing against such good opponents, but we held our own and did our best in every game. We won 3 games out of 5.

Tilly – It was an excellent day. We worked well together as a team and did our best on the day. We won 3 games out of 5.

Willow – It was a fun day. We played well in both defence and attack and are very grateful that we got to participate this year.

Riley – It was fun to play with all the Coota boys from Sacred Heart. We really appreciated Coach Dave Harris (MAD) who coached us throughout the day and gave us some fantastic ‘game play’ advice.

Sammy – I had a great day. It was a lot of fun. I liked how we played so well as a team. We really appreciated Jen McKay for her coaching tips throughout the day and Miss Wade for organising the day and Mrs Davis for getting us there and back safely

Tom – It was a fun day playing with boys we already knew and had played with before in weekend competitions. It was good to catch up with the Coota boys again. Special thanks to Mad for coming over and coaching us on the day and Sacred Heart for allowing us to join in their team.

Jemima – It was a great day, even though it was warm running around the field. The games were short (15 minutes) which made it a bit easier. Our defence was great. We also played well to get as many tries as we did.

Angus – It was great fun meeting the Coota boys and competing against so many teams with such good skills. It was also great to play against kids from Harden who I play with on weekends as well.

Special thanks must go to the NRL Development team for running the day, Miss Wade for organising the teams, Sacred Heart for allowing our boys to play in their team and Mrs Davis for driving the bus over and back. We are also very thankful for the Macca’s Soft Serve after the game as a thank you from Miss Wade and Mrs Davis for our sportsmanship and manners over the day.
