Celebrating Mary’s Canonisation

Re_1.jpg

Last Saturday was the 10th anniversary of the canonisation of Mary MacKillop. Mary was canonised on October 17, 2010 at Saint Peter’s Basilica, Rome. Pope Benedict XVI proclaimed Mary’s sainthood during a Canonisation Mass, in the presence of many thousands of people and streamed live around the world.

To celebrate the 10th canonisation anniversary, a commemorative prayer booklet has been created to inspire all to “take fresh courage” as Mary did so often throughout her life.

These prayers focus on ten significant moments in Saint Mary’s life, sharing details of her personal journey, highlighting her values and spirit, and offering prayers and blessings for our modern world. This prayer booklet also includes instructions and script for Courage Hour.

The free booklet is available to view, use and download below:

Catholic Mission Month

Catholic Mission is the international mission agency of the Catholic Church in Australia. Compelled by the message, life and love of Jesus Christ, Catholic Mission forms Australians for mission and raises funds for mission—in Australia and around the world. Catholic Mission supports children, communities and Church leaders around the world, including remote Australia. Grassroots needs are identified by local Catholics to give all people the opportunity for a full, enriched life–physically and spiritually–regardless of race, religion, gender or stigma.

Locally and globally, we answer the call to love God and love our neighbour by serving people in need. We engage in mission when we proclaim our faith through our words, actions and lives.

“Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.” John 13:34.

We share in God’s mission to reach out, and give life by sharing our personal and financial resources to:

  • proclaim the Gospel;
  • serve people in need;
  • act for peace, justice and creation; in partnership with local churches so that all may have life in Christ.

“I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.”  John 10:10

ocktober – Mini Vinnies Initiative

socks.jpg

In a challenging year, schools and students all over Australia have jumped on board to sock it to poverty and kick goals for kids in need around the world.

Socktober is an opportunity for our children to engage with people experiencing challenges in the developing world through the language they understand best – play! This Socktober, our Mini Vinnies team invite the Trinity student body to be challenged to make a difference through playing the world game of soccer.

A Word from the Mini Vinnies Team……

We are invited to engage with mission in a holistic way within the head, heart, hands model: encouraging a learning mind, an open heart, and hands for action. Children experience how their brothers and sisters around the world play the game of soccer, learn about life in Cambodia and other developing countries, and take concrete action with the support of their teachers, family and friends.

Socktober provides our school with the opportunity to lead in mission by sharing in activities to learn about and provide support for those experiencing poverty in their life.

HOW?

Next Thursday, 29th October, our Mini Vinnies team will conduct a Socktober Mission Day. This is an opportunity for Trinity to participate in activities including fun workshops, a penalty shootout game, and 360-degree virtual reality experiences. Socktober Mission Day adds depth to children’s experience of mission and an understanding of how daily life is similar and different in countries such as Cambodia. Students are invited to come to school wearing crazy socks, their favourite sport/team jersey, and donate a gold coin.

So, pull on your crazy socks,

pull out your favourite sport/team jersey,

and kick goals to 'Sock it to Poverty!

Prayer for Mission

prayer.jpg

Dear Lord, help me to continuously be aware of all people around me every single day. Where there are people, there are needs. Give me Your eyes to see some of those needs and the wisdom to know how to help as well. Help me to be your hands and feet as I serve others. And allow them to see Your light in my life as I do work in your name. Amen
