Around the Classroom
Year 2/3
Yr 2/3 have been modelling, comparing and representing fractions in Maths. They have explored fractions as length, area and sets/collections. Both iterating and partitioning various fractions. This week they solved problems about brownies that involved halves, quarters, thirds and sixths, using mixed numerals and equivalence. Feedback showed that 100% of the class were in the Learning Pit at some stage during these lessons and it is lovely to see how much they enjoy ‘wobble tasks’ and getting out of the pit.

Year 5/6
We are loving our ‘Warmup’ tasks in Maths each week in Year 5/6. We try to create a new challenge every time we develop our understanding of a warmup and we are expected to share our reasonings for our answers. Our Warmup Maths tasks include developing skills in all aspects of Maths but this week we have worked on Multiplication, Division and Decimals.
This week our new challenge has been ‘ONE NUMBER – FOUR DICE’ warmup.
- Teacher selects a target number
- Four dice are rolled
- Students need to try and make the target number using the numbers on the four dice and any operation
- For example, if the dice numbers were, 6, 2, 3 and 4, and the target was 24, a solution could be, 6 x 2 + 3 x 4 = 24
