Around the Classroom

Kinder/Year 1

Last week K/1 were disturbed by a cheeky little fly who kept changing tabs on their interactive white board and drawing a path on Activinspire with his teeny tiny feet. In true Trinity style, 'Jonathon' (the fly) quickly became a valued member of their class - the main character in their co-constructed text and the inspiration behind Friday's craft.

Year 2/3

Year 2/3 love to play a game or two of FLIP in Maths warm-up. Some students were multiplying the flipped card by 3, some students were adding on to the previous total, some were multiplying by 2 or doubling the total.

Year 4

With Mrs Cooper at home this Monday, Year 4 found the ‘time’ to still include her in our Maths learning this week! As Year 4 tackled the big concepts of measuring time, we were able to work in small groups to explore some of those difficult concepts. With our expert corners, manned by our fantastic Mrs Burns and Mrs Cooper, Year 4 were ‘jumping’ from seconds to minutes and minutes to hours using the jump strategy! Thank you, Mrs Cooper, for fitting us into your busy schedule and being part of our amazing learning ‘Team’.

Year 5/6

This term in Science Year 5/6 are investigating ‘Solids, Liquids and Gases’. Students classify objects as a solid, liquid or gas and begin to develop a shared understanding of the observable properties of each state.

This week, we were introduced to the word ‘matter’ in class and formulated the understanding that solids, liquids and gases are three different states of matter.

To consolidate our learning, we conducted an experiment where we made Chocolate Crispies, The experiment was about changing solids into liquids and back again. We noted during the experiment how and when the materials changed shape as well as temperature and texture. Not only was this a great lesson for learning about changing states of matter, it also had a ‘scrumptious’ conclusion to the lesson with a ‘taste testing’ of the finished products. YUM!
