National Simultaneous Storytime NSS) is an annual campaign that aims to encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books. Now in its 20th successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum.

Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.

NSS 2020's book is Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas written by Lucinda Gifford. By participating in National Simultaneous Storytime, we at Trinity, aim to promote the value of reading and literacy; promote the value and fun of books and promote an Australian writer and publisher.

This week in Library lessons the children took a sneak peek at Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas and created very colourful and glamorous chicken and fox divas. The primary students researched the author and illustrator to discover the many books she has written. They also researched into chicken to produce some very informative posters and created very humorous files on their favourite chickens.

We look forward to next Wednesday 27 May at 11am when we join many other students around Australian and New Zealand to share Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas read to us by non-other than the yellow Wiggle Emma Watkins.

We are encouraging all Trinity students and families to participate in Scholastic National Family Reading Month in May.

Every year during May, Scholastic holds an exciting reading challenge as part of the celebrations and Trinity is taking up the challenge this year!

Research shows that family reading time is one of the best ways to grow a child’s interest in the wonderful world of books. What an ideal time to increase this interest while we are all in isolation.

It is simple! All your child needs to do is read for at least 10 minutes every day in May and colour in the books on the Reading Log which is attached for you to print per child.

Sign up at scholastic.com.aunfrmm to enter the draw with a chance to win $100 in scholastic rewards to purchase more great books.

Kids who read, succeed!

Good luck and happy Reading!
