From the Principal
We have had such an amazing start to our school year. Our students and staff are bubbling over with their positive mind sets and eagerness to participate both in the classroom and at school events. It was wonderful to see so many Trinity parents and grandparents at Wednesday’s Induction Mass at St Mary’s Church. The theme this year is “Light The Way To Success”. During the Mass, the Year 6 ministers received their badges which were blessed by Father Lolisio and took their leadership pledge supported by their parents and carers. The Trinity students, staff and parents were also inducted into their roles to serve as responsible students, teachers and parents. The children who read and participated in the Mass were a credit to Trinity and their parents! Afterwards many of the families and the staff enjoyed a cuppa. A very special thank you to Mrs Jill Parker for making our amazing school banner! What a clever and talented lady she is! Check it out in our school foyer!
On Monday, Trinity hosted the Western Regions Swimming carnival at the Harden Pool. The children had a great day and we had many of our parents and Hennessy students assisting in various ways setting up, packing up, catering, marshalling and as officials. A very special thank you to Donna Wade our Sports Coordinator, for her organisation and our wonderful staff who assisted at the carnival.
On Wednesday evening we had our first Community Council meeting for 2020. We are in urgent need of a Treasurer! This job is not arduous, and you will be given support and assistance as you learn the ropes. Please consider as we currently have a council member doing two roles! We meet once a month, every third Monday for 1 hour from 5:30pm to 6:30pm. It is a great way to get involved with the school and you are able to be actively involved in decision making at Trinity. Please contact Charlie Lucas, Council Chair or Marylou if you are interested.
The BMX track is up and running and the children are absolutely loving it! The children have rostered days on, and they are sensibly following safety and road rules. We still have 6 more bikes plus two bike stands to erect if you can spare some time, we’d love your help! Please contact the front office if you are able to assist. Thank you in anticipation!
Many of our children are coming to school tired and informing the teachers they are going to bed late. This has always been a great concern for educators so below are some findings from recent research on academic performance and the impact of sleep.
A new study explored the relationship between the sleeping habits, hours slept, and academic performance of children aged between five and twelve years of age. Experts have found that sleeping less than nine hours, going to bed late and no bedtime routine generally affects children's academic skills. “We believe that more than 9 hours sleep and a nightly routine favours academic performance, to this end, the lacking hours of sleep distorts children's performance in linguistic knowledge, grammar and spelling rules, and key aspects in the organisation and comprehension of texts, to name a few examples”. The authors concluded that maintaining a healthy sleep pattern at this age contributes to positive cognitive development. "Nowadays, there is great concern because children are glued to the television, computers, and videogames, but the same importance is not given to them going to bed at the same time every night," concluded the study. Perhaps it is timely that you review the bedtime routines in your house and see if some changes will make a difference for your children both at home and school.
Playgroup commenced this week at Trinity. Playgroup is for 0 to 5-year-old children and is a wonderful opportunity to come along and have fun participating in free play, music appreciation with Tori Corcoran and story-time with the Principal plus borrowing from the Library. Our next Playgroup is this Thursday at 9:30am. The cost is free so come along and join in the fun!
