Boorowa Touch Football and Netball Carnival

Last Friday thirty-eight of our Trinity students, along with staff and families, travelled to Boorowa to participate in the Annual Touch Football and Netball Carnival. Once again the carnival was a HUGE success with over 3000 children participating from Canberra and surrounding schools. The weather was a bit of a deterrent this year as we experienced high winds, dust, heat and even a drop of rain over the day. A massive amount of preparation goes into the running of this day. We are all thankful to the carnival committee for their organisation and providing incredible facilities to make it an enjoyable day for our touch football teams. All our students displayed great skill and sportsmanship, and their behaviour was outstanding.

We sincerely thank our generous parents who offered their time to manage or coach teams (Ash Corkhill, Luke Oldfield, Jen McKay and Kirsty Summerfield). This is an enormous, but rewarding task. Thank you for sharing your skills and expertise with our students to help direct them on the day and prior coaching sessions at school.

Thank you also to our teachers who helped manage or coach teams at school and on the day (Mrs Birks, Mrs Lucas, Mr Niddrie, Miss O’Brien and Miss Wade). A number of hours were spent during lunchtimes and behind-the-scenes in preparation for this day. We are very lucky at Trinity to have such dedicated teachers and support staff who are readily willing to take on these responsibilities.

We thank parents, families and teachers who provided transport and support on the day and kept our children nourished and hydrated throughout the carnival. Thank you for your keen support of our children.

Special thanks also to the students from Murrumburrah High School and Hennessy College (Ethan Birks, Eliza Butt, James Collins, Oscar Phillis and Joie Whybrow) who assisted so capably with refereeing duties.

Finally, we thank our amazing Trinity students. ALL children played in their best spirits and gave all they had in every game displaying fabulous team qualities. Each and every child supported their friends and encouraged each other even through some of the worst weather the carnival has ever experienced. We should all be proud of our Trinity students for their commitment, cooperation and determination. What wonderful children we have at Trinity!!

The Teams:

The Boorowa Touch and Netball carnival is a wonderful opportunity which enables children to participate in sport in a non-threatening way and interact with children from other schools from across NSW and the ACT. All teams played their best in every game and celebrated their wins and losses with great sportsmanship. Each team had the opportunity to play five games over the day. Trinity had a number of successful results from Year 2 through to Year 5 / 6.

Congratulations and well done everyone for bravely taking on the enormity of this carnival again!!

Have a wonderful weekend.
