Mission Month

October 2019: ‘Baptised and Sent’

100 years ago, Pope Benedict XV released the encyclical Maximum Illud, which called on Catholics to bring the Good News to all peoples (Missio Ad Gentes). To commemorate this anniversary, Pope Francis has declared October 2019 to be an Extraordinary Month of Mission. This special month of prayer and action calls us all to renew our missionary commitment. We are called to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with all peoples.

Mission Rosary

This week we came together as a school to pray the Mission Rosary. We started our prayer service with an Introduction to the Rosary led by Years 5/6 followed by the whole school participating in a Rosary Pilgrimage where we travelled to each continent to pray the Rosary. Each teacher and child were given their own set of Mission Rosary Beads to pray together.

At the end of our prayer service each child and teacher shared a cupcake from the giant colourful Rosary Beads display made of cupcakes.

The Mission Rosary is a special form of the prayer, established in 1951 by Venerable Fulton J. Sheen, US National Director of Missio. Fr Sheen wanted to encourage Catholics to pray for the whole world, especially for those who are poor and vulnerable. Hence the Mission Rosary is made up of five different colours, each representing a different continent.

The Mission Rosary helps children to understand that they belong to a Universal Church that shares God’s love with our global human family. As they pray each decade they remember children in that continent and how, through Christ, we are all connected.

  • Africa is represented by the green decade which stands for the forests and grasslands there.
  • The Americas are red representing the fire of faith.
  • Europe is white because it is the home of the Holy Father in Rome.
  • Oceania is shown in blue for the oceans surrounding the islands there.
  • Asia is represented in yellow as a symbol of the sun rising in the East.

Our Prayer for Oceania:

We pray that we may all value and care for the oceans and sea life and all whose work involves the sea. Amen.

Family Mass

This Sunday, 27th October, we will be celebrating our first Family Mass for this term at St. Anthony’s Church at 9am. This is a time for our Trinity family to come together in prayer as we begin a new term. All families are warmly welcome to come along to share in prayer. Trinity teachers and students will be conducting the ministries.
