Semester Two comes to a close today and although the rain has kept the students inside, their spirits are high and I believe they are ready for a holiday.
Refugee Week
Yesterday Fr Lolly shared his words of wisdom through the homily. The focus of the mass was Refugee Week and Fr highlighted these three words:
Refuge. Fr explained that when people take refuge they take shelter, or seek shelter.
Refugee. He further explained, that it is refugees who seek shelter.
Unity. Finally he explained that we can help refugees to find shelter and create unity.
This somewhat simple explanation of a complex issue can offer us food for thought.
Beautiful students
This week we had a visitor from Catholic Education, to my delight he approached me at the end of the day and mentioned that he has been to many Catholic Schools within our Archdiocese and has encountered many students. He went on to describe the students at Trinity as beautiful students, who have lovely manners and are very welcoming. These are the important values we live by, inclusion, respect and sincerity. Congratulations to all our students who MAKE JESUS REAL everyday in the way they interact with one another and visitors to our school.
Mufti and a Milkshake
Phoebe and Tom, Charlie and Georgia accompanied me to Terracotta today for a milkshake. The topic of conversation was school holidays. I asked each of them where they would go, with who (6 people only) and why. I told them if I could go anywhere it would be to Perth, with my husband Ben, my son Jordan, my dog Lucky, my parents and my dear friend Sue. Funnily Lucky is like a person to me, so he is a must. How could we possibly leave him at home?
Catalyst
Catalyst is an Archdiocesan program that is informed by the Science of Learning and the Science of Reading. Teachers have been involved in evidenced based Professional Learning, to enable all students to meet the Archdiocesan bold goal, that every child is a competent reader. The data at Trinity at the end of Semester Two has proved beyond any doubt that this approach is successful and the resources we have put into the program are paying dividends. An essential part of the program is collecting data and teaching directly to the individual needs of students. Our infants team lead by Penny Lucas and including Jack Niddrie, Jo Birks, Fiona Bassinthwaighte and Beck Cooper are exceptional practioners and many parents heard and saw the good news at parent teacher interviews this week.
Johnson Family
Today I made a presentation to the Johnson family to support them in rebuilding their family home. The generosity of our community is astounding, Lawrence, Henry and Charlie all received their very own toy basket that consisted of books, pencils, textas, games to play, footballs and games to play as a family. My sincere thanks to

Jack and Kaitlin are expecting their first baby in the next couple of weeks. Today was Jack’s last day until week five next term. On Wednesday of this week Jack cared for a “doll” to help him experience being a Daddy. The students were forth coming in ensuring little baby Mia was well cared for. We wish Jack and Kaitlin much joy in the coming weeks. We look forward to some photos next term.

Refugee Week: 20– 26th June
This week students reflected on Refugee Week in their RE lessons to promote recognition and understanding of the positive contributions made by refugees to Australian society and create a culture of welcome throughout the country. The theme for Refugee Week this year is:
UNITY -The Way Forward
Whole School Mass
This week, Mr Niddrie and students from each class led our school community in prayer at a whole school mass to celebrate Refugee Week. The mass reflected the theme of unity. Unity is being together or at one with someone or something. It is the opposite of being divided. This is a word for togetherness or oneness. When there is unity, people are in agreement and act together for a particular purpose. The basic faith that lies behind the ideal of unity is that the existence of life and humanity has communality. Together, we pray for unity in our world, particularly as we celebrate Refugee Week.
John 17:23 "I in them and you in me–so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.”
Around the Classrooms in Religious Education in Year 5-6
Our unit in RE this term in Year 5/6 was ‘Holy Spirit’ – the overarching question being ‘How does the Holy Spirit ROCK my world?’
The text students studied in this unit was from Acts 2: 1-13 – The Pentecost Story. During the unit students identified some of the ways in which conscience is formed by the Word of God (Decalogue) and Jesus’ moral teaching (The Beatitudes). They explained how conscience is a judgement of reason that takes into account the good of all. Students described how the formation of conscience is assisted by the gifts of the Holy Spirit (wisdom, understanding, right judgement, courage, knowledge, awe and wonder and reverence).
Some of the questions Year 5/6 discussed and reasoned with were:
- Who is the Holy Spirit?
- Where can the Holy Spirit be seen at work in people's lives?
- When have we experienced actions of the Holy Spirit in our own lives or the lives of others?
- What does a good choice / decision / action look like? feel like?
- What assists Christians when making moral choices?
- What might Christians consider when making a moral choice?
Spirituality Day
Next term, Trinity staff will begin the term with a Spirituality Day on Monday 12th July before the students return to school on Tuesday 13th July. The objectives of the day are:
To unpack and engage with the scriptures using the Worlds of the Text and Visio Divina
To explore various ways in which we can engage with scripture to help nurture our spiritual growth and wellbeing.
To experience and understand God in our lives.
This will be achieved through unpacking a selection of Parables.
NAIDOC Week
The first week back next term is NAIDOC Week. The theme for NAIDOC Week 2021 is:
Heal Country – Heal Our Nation
Staff and students will be participating in NAIDOC activities, prayer and mass during the week to celebrate and highlight awareness of our Indigenous culture.
Beanie Day
On Friday 16th July (Week One – Term 3) we will have a ‘Wear Your Beanie/Gloves/Scarf’ day run by our Mini Vinnies Team. This year we will have a local focus to support our community members. Further information will be sent out in Week One.

Peer Support
In this week’s final session of the Peer Support module 'Moving Forward', students reflected on what they have learned over the past seven weeks. The students made a cube to remind them to draw on their strengths, achievements and people who support them when faced with challenging situations. These protective factors promote confidence and motivate students to approach new situations where they can then apply the Pause, Plan, Proceed Model.
We thank all our Year 6 students for their amazing leadership during Peer Support this term. They have been wonderful role models and have led the sessions with enthusiasm and initiative. We thank Mrs Doolan for supporting Year 6 in their preparations for the sessions each week and organising the resources needed for the weekly lessons.
Johnson Family Fundraiser
On Tuesday Team Trinity hosted a special day to raise funds for the Johnson family who tragically lost their home to a fire on Wednesday 9th June. Together with families, parishioners and members of our wider community, we raised over $1100!
We are extremely appreciative of everyone who donated their time, money, goods and services to make this day so successful.
Kinder/1/2 Maths
K/1/2 have been learning all about telling the time this week and yesterday, with the help of Yr 5/6, they made their own clocks. The students are getting very good at knowing the terms 'a quarter past' and 'a quarter to'.
Parliament
Today at Parliament, the Year 6 Ministers gave their reports on whats been happening this term. Please click on the link below to view Parliament:
Rugby Trials - Riley Jackson
Riley Jackson travelled to Forbes on Monday to compete in the MacKillop Rugby Trials. Riley had to be in Forbes for a training session with the NSW Waratahs on Sunday afternoon which was an exciting opportunity. This was followed by a team training session before the trials on Monday. Riley played well in all games, scoring five tries over the day, making it to the ‘Possible and Probables’ team to score yet another try in a team of very capable players. Unfortunately, Riley missed out on selection for the next level. Trinity staff and students are super proud of Riley’s efforts and look forward to his future achievements.
Whole School Sport
Next term Trinity students from K-6 will participate in Tennis Skills and Drills in a 5 week block of ‘Whole School Sport’ commencing on Monday 26th July. Further information and permission notes will be sent home to parents in Week One of Term 3.
