Grandparents and Special Friends Day: Today we paid special tribute to our beautiful grandparents and special friends. Unfortunately, this year with the Covid19 restrictions they were unable to join us here at Trinity, but we celebrated the day by participating in a beautiful interactive liturgy in each classroom. This liturgy will be available for our grandparents and special friends. Please refer to Ms Wade’s RE section in the newsletter for the link. Thank you to Ms Wade and Year 5/6 for preparing the liturgy and putting together the very special power point for our grandparents and the children. We hope to resume our usual celebrations at Trinity in 2021.
National Science Week: This week was National Science Week. Due to the busyness of the week we will be participating in STEM and Science activities in each classroom next week. The school theme of National Science Week 2020 is Deep Blue: innovations for the future of our oceans. We look forward to sharing with you our Science experiments towards the end of next week.
NAPLAN Testing: Yesterday we received notification that the Year 3 and 5 students will be participating in online practice tests in Reading and Numeracy. These tests will provide useful data for the teachers for ‘where to next’ and student progress data will be provided for the Year 5 students. These tests will be conducted at Trinity on the 31st August at 9.30am.
COVID-19: On Tuesday, a letter was sent home and provided on Schoolzine for each family, with the latest COVID-19 advice from NSW Health and Catholic Education Canberra and Goulburn for implementation on Wednesday August 19. The updated advice and additional measures attempt to provide greater specificity around the protocols to help manage the risks posed by COVID-19 to school communities. Students (and staff) with even mild flu-like symptoms are now required to be tested and can only return to school upon a receipt of a negative test result that must be provided to the school. Current advice stipulates that there are to be no choirs, group singing, assemblies longer than 15 minutes duration, no activities resulting in mixed class groups, inter-school activities, school meetings in groups or Kinder Orientation. Should this advice change we will notify you all immediately. Meanwhile Trinity remains fully operational and all students are expected to attend face to face classes. We are extremely grateful to each and everyone of you for the manner in which you accept these changes when they occur, with very little notice. It is extremely difficult for staff and students who love to see all our parents, grandparents and special friends at our school but it is critical that we all comply with the requirements which will assist to keep us all safe and well. Don’t forget a wonderful way to keep updated with school events is to go to our Trinity FaceBook page where we endeavour to share regular classroom learning activities and significant key events. The students and staff love to see your comments and hitting the like and share buttons provides an opportunity for people outside our school to see it too.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend.
God Bless and keep well,
Marylou Gorham
Trinity Recipe Book
As a fundraiser for our school, we are putting together a Recipe Book. This is a great way for all members of the family to get involved and everyone always loves a great country recipe book. So, we’d like you to email us your favourite recipes in a word document to fiona.bassingthwaigh@cg.catholic.edu.au - Anything from Slow cooker recipes, mains, desserts, cakes, slices, salads etc. Every recipe that comes to school will have the senders name in the book and will earn 10 house points. More information will be sent home in the coming weeks regarding sponsorship of pages, but it is envisaged that the cookbook will be ready before the end of the year just in time for Christmas.
Annual Satisfaction Survey
The annual satisfaction survey of parents, students and staff will be conducted on behalf of all Catholic schools in the Diocese this term. The surveys are designed to gather feedback from parents, staff and students about our school and will be used to inform school improvement. Responses are confidential and individuals can not be identified. The surveys will be launched via email on Friday 7 August 2020 using the email addresses supplied to the school. If you do not receive an email with a link to the survey, you can access and complete the survey at the following link: https://www.research.net/r/trinitycatholicprimaryparent2020
Fundraising
A very special thank you to all our Trinity families and staff for their hard work selling the chocolates. The chocolate fundraiser is now completed. Please return all monies raised and any chocolates that are unsold, to the front office as soon as possible.
Last week each family was given a small book of raffle tickets to sell in a trailer load of wood. Winter is not yet over and everyone loves to keep warm. Who could ask for more with a trailer load of wood delivered to your door! Please get behind this great fundraising initiative organised by the Community Council and support Trinity.
COVID-19
The pick-up and drop off arrangements which were put in place last term, still continue. Please park your car in front of the presbytery so the children can exit and walk to the gate. A teacher will be on duty at the front gate from 8:45 to 9:10 am as well as after school. We request that parents maintain social distancing practices at all times when coming to and from school. If in the event your child/children are late to school or being picked up early, you are still required to sign them in and out with social distancing practices in place at the front office.
Communication
Communication to our parents and carers is always a priority. Please check our Schoolzine App for newsletters, upcoming events and announcements. Notes are always sent home for key events but don’t forget to check FaceBook for notifications or the newsletter which is emailed out to each family every Friday and can also be viewed on our website. The newsletter is also available via hard copy from the front office on request. Please ensure you make it a priority to read our amazing newsletter as it is informative and will help keep you updated with what is happening in the school and community.
Celebrating our Grandparents Liturgy
Trinity students shared a beautiful Liturgy to celebrate and thank our Grandparents today. Please click on the link below to view this:
Grandparents are cherished members of our family. They bring gifts of wisdom, experience and love. They share with us their life of faith. We thank God for their example and ask that he bless them with happiness and good health.
A PRAYER FOR GRANDPARENTS
Dear God,
Please bless our grandparents.
Thank you for the life they gave my parents and for the life they give to me.
For the ways they helped me and made me strong, I give thanks. For the ways they love me no matter what, I rejoice. For the ways they have paved the road that leads me here, I am grateful.
Let them grow in wisdom and joy in life. Let them find peace and rest from their work. Let them be healed of every sickness and pain.
And let them see with their own eyes the glory of your Son, Jesus, in the love of their children and grandchildren.
Bless them always until they come to rest in you.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Readings this Weekend: Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time A
GOSPEL: Matthew 16:13-20
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2016%3A13-20&version=NIV
Jesus asks, “Who do people say I am?”
Living the Gospel
The question that Jesus asks the disciples is a question he asks of all of us. How we answer that question reflects our relationship with Jesus. But more importantly, how we answer that question reflects the way we live our life in response to who we believe Jesus to be. If we truly say that we believe in Jesus as the son of God, then how do we live our lives in such a way that we act on that belief? The gospel shows us that an inadequate answer to that question leads to missing the point of all that Jesus is. (Excerpts taken from Greg Sunter Reflection)
Like Peter, we too may have good intentions, but when they are put to the test, we realise that was all they were – good intentions. Still, we should not be discouraged by our weaknesses, for just as Peter’s failure did not deter God from entrusting him with power and authority, so our failures need not be obstacles to God’s grace in our lives. We watch God entrust the church to us individuals who are weak and undependable, and we realise that judgments are inscrutable and God’s ways unsearchable. (Excerpts taken from Dianne Bergant Reflections).
Thought of the Week
(Michael Crossland)
Wishing everybody a wonderful weekend.
God bless,
Donna Wade
Think about a time when you were learning something. Did you know where you were going in the learning journey? Did you understand the learning outcome?
“Imagine getting into an airplane that was being flown by a pilot who didn’t know where he or she was headed. Rather, a control tower would contact him/her at some unspecified time in the future to let him/her know they had arrived, or worse, that they missed the mark entirely.
Students are flying their own “learning plane.” If we know that they know where they are headed, learning would be much more successful and efficient. If students know the outcome of the learning, know what the goals of the learning are, and are able to communicate how they’ll get there, then they have taken ownership of their learning.
Why is success criteria effective?
Success criteria have been shown to increase students’ internal motivation. It provides students with clear, specific, and attainable goals that can spark motivation. Even in some of the most reluctant learners. The more explicitly and precisely they can see the goal, the more motivated they will likely be to meet that goal. The success criteria is also the map to assist students to achieve their learning goals. Allowing students to see in front of them what they need to do to achieve their learning goal.
This has been a focus area for our school this year and our Year 4 students were quoted on how they feel about the use of success criteria in their learning environment.

Prime Minister’s Report
by Poppy Lucas and Tilly Bowman
This Parliamentary session, due to Covid-19, we are now going to deliver our report virtually using our technology devices.
Public speaking will go ahead for Years 3-6 and we will let you know the topics on the 24th August. The speeches will be on Wednesday 23rd September (Week 10). We hope you are all looking forward to presenting your speeches.
Remember that if you are feeling unwell please stay at home and if you have come in contact with someone who has tested positive to Covid-19, please get tested yourself.
Trinity has started Mini Vinnies this term and the Year 6 Ministers are all looking forward to holding fundraisers. Our Year 5 students are supporting the Ministers in this mission within our school. We are very excited to get this initiative going at Trinity and we hope you are all exited too.
This term the school has introduced some new feathery friends for our new hen house at the Trinity school garden site. Their names are: Awesome Sprinkle, Tinkerbell Coco, Ginger Cookie and Shirley Beaker.
Our awards this week go to Claudia Loydell for having great manners and to Harry Edwards for always having a smile on his face.
Sport and Environment Minister Report
by Chaz Cooper
It is with some regret I need to report that a couple of sporting events have been cancelled this term due to the Covid-19 restrictions imposed on schools.
One event that has been cancelled is our much-loved Boorowa carnival. The NRL Gala day has also been postponed until Term 4. Our Trinity athletics carnival will now be held on Wednesday 16th of September in Week 9.
Next Friday is our first house spirit day for Term 3. Remember to wear your house colours to earn points for your team.
We have had a number of new handballs donated to our school from Essential Energy. These can be used for all students to play handball. Students have been enjoying playing handball under the sheltered areas throughout this wet weather.
A Few Reminders
- If you have sports equipment from the sports shed, please return it at the end of play time so the monitors can put it away. This will help us keep the sports shed tidy.
- Please remember to keep our playground and eating areas tidy by putting your rubbish into the bins.
My award this week goes to Billy Corkhill for always helping to pack up equipment at the sports shed.
Library and Celebrations Minister Report
by Tassie Sommer
Mrs Doolan, Mrs Parker and their little elves very busily created a jungle of wild and curious creatures in our library during the holidays. “Curious Creatures with Wild minds” is the Book Week theme for 2020 and there are certainly many mysterious and wild animals keeping Skoob and us company in the library this term.
All classes have been busy using their wild imaginations to create their own curious creatures which are also on display in the library. So take a look at our fabulous posters and creations.
We will celebrate Book Week next term in Week 2. Mrs Doolan will hold a Book Fair and other exciting activities to get ready. So, start thinking about which curious or wild creature you will come to school dressed up as in Book Week.
In the coming weeks Mrs Doolan will read to us some of this year’s shortlisted books and we will have the chance to vote on our favourite.
Lots of brand new non-fiction books and recently published fiction books are available in the library for borrowing. Mrs Doolan would love to see every child borrowing each week.
Each Tuesday at recess Kinder, Year 1 and Year 2 are welcome into the library to enjoy some scrumptious popcorn while listening to stories about some fascinating creatures and their unusual characteristics. Years 3 to 6 can enjoy milk and bookies while discussing with a buddy their own independent readers. Keep an eye out for Mrs Doolan’s posters on display to let you know of days and times.

Due to Covid-19 we are doing a lot more schoolwork on our ICT resources, so please use them correctly. At the start of the term we participated in a Mini Writing Festival via Zoom with some famous authors such as Jackie French!
On the eighteenth of August, Year 3-6 did a survey about the school. Examples of the questions where ‘Do you like going to Trinity?’ and ‘Do you enjoy the programs available at Trinity?’ This survey was designed to get feedback for what is going well at Trinity and what can be done for future growth.
As you know at Trinity, we encourage a BYOD system meaning ‘Bring Your Own Device’ but please use the iPads correctly and responsibly at school.
Trinity offers Chromebooks and spare iPads but most students have their own device.
Kinder and Year 1 have been frequently been using apps such as Seesaw, Handwriting apps, Book Creator and Tennis Frames.
Year 2/3 have been using the apps Seesaw, Book Creator Online, Online Dictionary and Calculator.
Year 4 has used Google Classroom, Google Docs and Slides, Book Creator, Youtube, Pic Collage and Word Dictionary.
Year 5/6 have been using the apps Pic Collage, Google Docs, Google Classroom, Interactive Sites, Etymology and Dictionary Online, Podcasts, Google Slides, Speakpipe and QR Readers.
My award this week goes to Bella Betts for being kind and inclusive to others.
RE Minister Report
by Tylerr Leitner
Students at Trinity have been trying really hard to Make Jesus Real in their lives. Many students have been playing fairly in the playground, helping each other, sharing equipment and caring for one another. It has been great to see many MJR Awards being handed out each week.
This term some of our Year 4 students, along with some children from Murrumburrah Public School received the Sacrament of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. We are very thankful for their efforts in preparing for these Sacraments and for the help and support of teacher’s and families and Father Lolesio during their preparations.
This term we have also celebrated Mary MacKillop’s Feast Day Liturgy and a Prayer Liturgy for the Assumption of Mary.
This week we participated in a Virtual Prayer Service to celebrate our Grandparents. All these Liturgies are available on our Youtube channel and Facebook page.
My Gotcha goes to Emerson Mann-Rea for helping people on the playground.
Kinder, 1, 2 & 3
On Wednesday, Kinder/Yr 1 and Yr 2/3 participated in a very enjoyable music lesson conducted by our very talented Miss Corcoran. The students sang, clapped, stomped and played instruments to 'We will rock you'! So much fun!
Year 4
In Year 4 we have been learning about procedures and finding out just how specific we must be when given instructions. On Friday Mr Niddrie put the kid’s instruction skills to the test!! I have a feeling nobody will be asking them for directions when making their next batch of fairy bread... Have look at how we went!
