I am currently in Canberra attending the end of year Principal's Leadership Day. One of the many opportunities of the day is for Ross Fox and the team at CE to develop Principals as leaders of Curriculum. The two keynote speakers were Professor Pamela Snow, Professor at La Trobe University and Lisa Paul OA (Order of Australia Medal) and PSM (Public Service Medal). Both keynote speakers affirmed the Archdiocese for its dedication to a teaching pedagogy based on the Science of Learning and Reading and spurred us on to continue as Leaders of the Nation.
There are some pertinent take away messages for us;
- Learning is a change in long term memory.
- School is a place where unnatural (biologically secondary) learning takes place, unlike natural (biologically primary) learning that takes place in the home environment (for example, learning to walk and talk).
- Knowledge is important.
- Reading is an essential method people use to acquire knowledge.
- To unlock the reading box, there are two keys:
- students ability to take letters off the page and know the word that is created
- students ability to comprehend and understand.
We continue the Catalyst journey at Trinity by maintaining the momentum of professional learning, building on current knowledge to accelerate learning for our students.
Today is National Teacher's Day and I cannot thank our teachers enough for their excellence. Their dedication to improving their teaching to increase the learning outcomes of students is relentless. Often I will hear professional conversations between colleagues that demonstrates their willingness to reduce a child's cognitive load so that their ability to learn is increased. No stone is left unturned. Thank you to our teachers. The Community Council prepared a special lunch for teachers on Wednesday as a way of demonstrating their thanks. Thank you to Ali Betts and the team who prepared a delicious lunch.
Day 2 of our Kinder Orientation Program was held on Tuesday. It was lovely seeing our new Kinders interacting, learning, laughing, dancing and enjoying the day. We look forward to welcoming them back next Wednesday.
Thank you to everyone involved in the Calcutta last weekend and all the families that bought tickets. A special mention to Jill Parker, the time and effort she puts into this fundraiser for Trinity is amazing - thank you!
Don't forget to book your musical tickets! The countdown in on - only 20 days to go!
God bless,

Grandparents Day – Sunday 30th October
In Australia, Grandparents Day is celebrated on the last Sunday of the month of October.
It’s a special occasion that celebrates Grandparents, grand-friends, relatives, and those who generally take on the role of a Grandparent within their family or community. It’s a beautiful time to celebrate those older members of our family and community and thank them for the wonderful contributions they make to our lives.
We thank our Grandparents and friends for so much.
- for listening to our stories and for sharing their memories.
- for their wisdom and for guiding us in the right direction when we start to steer the wrong way.
- for the many family times we celebrate together.
- for the warmth of smiles.
- for gentleness of heart
- for sharing special occasions with us
- for teaching us with patience and love
- for hugs, wiping away tears when we are sad and sharing laughter
Grand Friends Mass
This week, K-2 led our school in a beautiful mass to celebrate our Grandparents and the Grand Friends in our lives. The Gospel reading for this mass was our school themed Gospel for this year, ‘Let the Children Come’, which Fr Lolesio beautifully connected to our Grandparents. We thank Mrs Lucas and K-2 children for sharing thoughtful prayers and reflections to remind us how special our Grandparents are in our lives.
A PRAYER FOR GRANDPARENTS
Dear God,
Please bless our grandparents.
Thank you for the life they gave our parents and for the life they give to us.
For the ways they help us and make us strong, we give thanks.
For the ways they love us no matter what, we rejoice.
For the ways they have paved the road that leads us here, we are grateful.
Let them grow in wisdom and joy in life.
Let them find peace and rest from their work.
Let them be healed of every sickness and pain.
And let them see with their own eyes the glory of your Son, Jesus, in the love of their children and grandchildren.
Bless them always until they come to rest in you.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Wellbeing and Leadership Workshop with Tim Guthrie
This week, Year 3/4 and 5/6 participated in their final workshops with Tim Guthrie. Throughout these sessions, students participate in dialogue and movement sessions to develop skills in confidence and self-belief as well as developing vital skills in friendship building and leadership. Our school community take this opportunity to thank Tim for the wonderful work he has done this year with our students through his workshops. We look forward to working with Tim again next year.
Around the Classrooms in RE
K/1/2 have been learning about Prayer this Term in Religious Education. They have read stories from the bible about how Jesus taught his friends to pray and have studied The Lord’s Prayer in detail.
K/1/2 have discovered that prayer is like talking to God. It is a way to build and strengthen their relationship with God.
During morning prayer, K/1/2 pray a mixture of traditional prayers, songs, intentions and prayers of praise. Their favourite prayer time is on Mondays when they offer a prayer of gratitude. Mrs Lucas and Mrs Birks love this prayer too as they often get to hear all about the wonderful people and things that are happening in their lives.

This year all students from K-6 have been given a Home Reading Log where they are to record their reading each night.
It has been great to see the number of ‘Reading Nights’ children have recorded in their home reading log.
Once children reach a reading goal of nights they are rewarded with a sticker for their book from Mrs Perryman.
Keep up the great reading!!
